The communal gardens are for the enjoyment of all residents, who have a right to access them. These are regularly maintained and developed by Somerstown’s gardening contractor. Regular maintenance includes grass cutting, hedge trimming, weedkilling and litter picking. One section of the communal gardens is being developed as a wildlife friendly area.
No vigorous ball games please, to avoid damage to plants and trees.
For Somerstown’s houses, each home owner is responsible for keeping their gardens well maintained. House gardens are not part of the estate’s gardening contract.
The open plan nature of the estate should be respected and therefore there should be no fences or hedges at the front of houses. Please also keep the house front area clear of rubbish where possible.
Somerstown’s trees are annually reviewed by a professional tree surgeon. There are around 70 trees across the grounds.
Planned work is carried out to a schedule, for example you may see some trees cut every three or so years.
House owners are also responsible for ensuring their large trees or shrubs do not overhang the communal alleyways.
One tree on the estate is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO).
