Some alterations to your property may require prior consent.
If you are planning any alterations that affect the external appearance of the property then this may need consent from the Local Planning Authority due to the planning restrictions imposed at the time Somerstown was built. These were designed to maintain the special nature of Somerstown.
For example, the Transfer document for houses prevents any building structures, fences, walls, hedges or gates being added in front of the house. Similarly, no other building structure or extension can be added elsewhere on the property without first gaining consent from Somerstown Management Company (consent for garden sheds and greenhouses in rear gardens is not unreasonably withheld).
Therefore, if you are planning an extension or wish to put up an outbuilding (conservatories, sheds, etc) in the rear garden then you will need to apply for the Management Company’s consent, as well as possibly from the local Planning Authority. Please refer to the guidance notes and application form, and allow ample time for the matter to be referred to the directors.
